Empowerment by Design Symposium

What: Please join us Friday, May 31 beginning at 3:30 PM in KIST’s FAED Building for the inaugural design symposium hosted by the Department of Architecture and FAED’s Cultural and Outreach Committee with Keynote Speaker Raul Pantaleo of studio tamassociati.

The Department of Architecture’s cultural outreach for the 2012-2013 second semester aimed to stress the role architecture and design can have on a community and the potential role it can play in development, awareness, and activism. Design and planning for a community can be the catalyst for change-making.
Our afternoon will begin with 20:20 Presentations from local designers, creative thinkers and visionaries sharing their projects, practices and ideas on community empowerment, followed by Q&A and discussion panels with the presenters. FAED is honored to welcome architect, graphic designer and partner at design studio tamassociati, Raul Pantaleo as the event’s keynote speaker. To close the day, we will be screening Unfinished Spaces: The National Arts School of Cuba.
On exhibit will be the studio and the thesis work from the award winning students in each year and the announcement of the 2012-2013 studio awards. Additionally, KIST is proud to host the International Exhibition Archigineer Africa: Collective Housing in Africa. The exhibit will open on the ground floor studios in FAED and in the arcbox on Friday, 31 May and run through Friday, 7 June.
